Drum Sorter
Operational Overview:
This machine strictly adheres to GMP/FDA compliance standards only food-grade materials. The drum sorter ensures uninterrupted operation while proficiently sorting cannabis buds, requiring occasional shutdowns for emptying sorted product containers and cleaning maintenance.
Whether manually or an automated pass-through trimmer is used, buds enter the sorter, experiencing gentle rotation enabling effective separation. The slightly inclined sorter, from feed to discharge, allows the product to travel its length during rotation. Using various smooth round perforation sizes, the sorter facilitates size-based separation of buds. The largest buds ultimately exiting at the end.
Key Features:
Our standard size drum sorter effectively removes small buds and trim debris (shake) in the initial stage through (1/2”) sizing holes, followed by the separation of “C” grade (3/4”) buds in the second stage. The third stage targets the removal of “B” grade (1″) buds, while premium “A” grade buds are collected at the chamber’s end.
When utilizing a pass-through auto trimmer, the drum sorter can be strategically positioned to receive buds immediately upon their exit from the trimmer. This might involve elevating the trimmer onto a platform, and we offer an affordable custom solution made from lightweight extruded aluminum for this purpose. Alternatively, buds can be loaded manually in bulk through a detachable loading funnel which is provided with all models.
Sorters come with standard drum sorting sizes of 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″, with larger premium flowers smoothly passing through. Custom drums with your specific hole size configuration are also available, click HERE (leads to custom questionnaire)
Delicate Handling: Our gentle treatment method surpasses that of shaking or slotted table sorters. The laser-cut, round hole sorting design ensures that buds remain undamaged. This stands in contrast to higher-priced competitors’ drum/tumble sorters with rectangular openings, which can potentially damage buds with sharp edges, leading to trichome loss and tearing of the buds.
Experience Quick and Effortless Cleaning with the Groen Automation Drum Sorting Machines
The drum sorter has a user-friendly cleaning process. The drive assembly can be manually pivoted upwards, allowing for the convenient removal of the sorting drum. Additionally, the feeding funnel effortlessly detaches by lifting it from the guides connected to the main frame, requiring no tools for the process.
The cleaning procedure is both quick and efficient. The feeding funnel, sorting drum, and containers can be easily removed for thorough cleaning. On average, a complete cleaning of the entire machine takes less than 20 minutes. For a rapid cleaning of the funnel, drum, and containers, it takes less than 10 minutes. Our design prioritizes simplicity and speed, ensuring that maintaining and cleaning our drum sorting machines is a hassle-free experience.
Standard Features on all Models:
304 Passivated Stainless-Steel Drum and Feeding Funnel: Built with food-grade SS materials, the sorting drum and feeding funnel are the sole components of the sorter that come into contact with the buds before they are separated into the designated container.
Drum Sorting Sizes: The standard size drum round sorting holes measure 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″, allowing larger premium buds to pass through seamlessly. These holes are precision laser-cut to ensure smooth edges, minimizing friction that could otherwise result in trichome loss and bud tearing. Additionally, custom drums with your preferred hole size are also available.
Idler Wheel Drum Support: The drum is supported by idler wheels with sealed bearings for smooth operation. The drum has flanges on each end to guide the drum during rotations.
Swing-Away Drum Drive System: Incorporates a swing-away drum drive system for easy access to remove sorting drum for cleaning, as no tools are required.
110-Volt Gear Motor: Utilizes a 110-volt, 1 amp, 35 RPM gear motor.
Extruded Aluminum Frame: Built on a sturdy and durable extruded aluminum frame.
Mobility: Enhanced with 2 ½” locking casters for effortless mobility and positioning.
Safe and User-Friendly Operation: Prioritize safety and ease of use with our sorter design, which eliminates pinch points. The gear-driven motor is equipped to stop in the event of any obstruction to the drum’s movement during operation. This design eliminates the necessity for additional guarding, reducing weight and the number of items requiring cleaning.

DS100
DRUM SORTER
is the basic unit. All product contact is food grade stainless steel. The DS100 comes equipped with 20” x 13” x 6” stainless steel collection containers.
The drum sorter will sort cannabis buds in a continuous operation. Cannabis buds are loaded into the sorter and segregated into containers. If you are using an auto trimmer, the drum sorter can be located to accept buds as they come out of the trimmer. Buds can also be manually loaded in bulk.
As the buds enter the drum, they are gently tumbled for separation. The drum is set up on a slight decline from feed to discharge. As the drum rotates the product moves along its length. There are different size perforations in the drum to allow the buds to fall thru to the containers by size. The largest buds travel the entire length of the drum and fall out the end.
The drum rides on ball bearing idler wheels at each end and includes flanges to maintain position. The drive assembly manually pivots up so the drum can be removed for cleaning. Installation and start-up assistance can be provided in your facility at our standard time and material rates (provided upon request).
